Shungite is a stone that is 98 per cent carbon, originally found only in a northern region of Russia. Shungite is a group of metamorphosed sedimentary Precambrian rocks formed from pyrobitumen, that was biological in origin. The stone contains traces of naturally occurring antioxidants called fullerenes that are an extremely rare form of elemental carbon. The rarer pure form of Shungite is called Noble Shungite. It has a silvery sheen. Noble Shungite formed in layers and lenses from hydrocarbons that migrated within the host rock.
