This specimen is a metamorphic rock that has resulted from plate tectonics and a nearby igneous intrusion. The original limestone sedimentary rock had Magnesium rich layers or sections. The variable heat, pressure and supply of elements resulted in the formation of different rarer crystals in a marble/dolomite matrix. This specimen has Ruby and Phlogopite crystals.
Phlogopite is related to the more common Biotite. It has Magnesium, rather than iron in its chemical composition.
