How does a tarot reading work?
1. A reading typically follows these steps:
2. The person asks a question or focuses on a topic.
3. The deck is shuffled. This is done to connect the cards to the person's energy or intention, or at least to leave it to chance.
4. Cards are drawn and placed in a layout called a ‘spread’. A simple three-card spread might represent Past, Present and Future. More complex spreads can be used to explore different aspects of life such as decisions, obstacles, opportunities and relationships.
5. The reader interprets the cards. The interpretation and meaning comes from:
i. The individual card
ii. Its position in the spread
iii. Nearby cards
iv. The question being asked
