This new arrival from Afghanistan via Lawrence Handicrafts is an example of the multi-colorful Elbaite group in the Tourmaline family. Indicolite (blue to blue/green) is another member, alongside Green (Verdelite) and Pink Tourmaline which make up Watermelon Tourmaline.

Blue and Green Elbaite crystals are often pleochroic, which means that the crystal appears darker in colour when viewed along its vertical axis, compared to viewing along its horizontal axis.
